Overview

This procedure explains how to create a Symmetrix device group and optionally add devices to the device group.

 

This procedure is from the SMC online help.

 

1.   

Open the dialog

 

Right-click the Composite Group folder and select DG/CG Management, Create Group to open the Composite Group Management dialog box.

 

2.   

Enter information

Specify a Composite Group Name.

 

 

3.   

Verify the Symmetrix ID, or select a Symmetrix ID from the drop-down list.

 

 

4.   

Select a Composite Group Type (Regular, RDF1, or RDF2). If the group type is RDF1, you can only add R1 devices, if the group type is RDF2, then you can add only R2 devices.

 

 

5.   

Select a Consistency Type (N/A, PPATH, RDF_Consistency).

 

Note: To create an empty composite group, click OK. To add or remove devices, continue the remaining steps.

 

 

6.   

Select the Device Type.

(STD, BCV, TGT, VDEV, BRBCV, RDEV, RTGT, RVDEV, or RRBCV)

 

 

7.   

Optional: Filter the Available list by Dev Config, Emulation, Capacity, Reservations, and/or SRDF Group.

 

 

8.   

Select devices from the Available list and click Add or click Add All to move all the devices from the Available list to the Group Members list.

 

 

9.   

Optional: To remove devices from the Group Members list, select the device and click Remove, or click Remove All to remove all the devices from the Group Members list.

 

 

10.  

If you specified a device type of BRBCV, RBCV, RTGT, RVDEV, and RRBCV, select the

Rdfg (RDF group) to which you want to associated the devices.

 

11.  

If you specified a device type of RRBCV, specify a Remote rdfg to which you want

to associate the devices.

 

12.  

Optional: Add other device types

Repeat steps 6 through 11 to add other device types.

 

13.  

Click OK

Click OK to create the composite group and exit the dialog.

 

 

14.  

Confirmation message displays

Click OK to acknowledge the confirmation message.

 

The new composite group displays in the navigation tree under the Composite Group folder. If the group is not there, click Refresh View on the menu bar.
