Add/remove devices to/from a cascaded RDF1 consistency group

About this procedure

·    This procedure was created using Solutions Enabler version 7.5.

·    This procedure uses the following configuration:

·    SRDF consistency group:

·     R1 is on Symmetrix 88. R1->R21 uses RDFG 1

·     R21 is on Symmetrix 76. R21->R2 uses RDFG2.

·     R2 is on Symmetrix 156

 

·    RDF-ECA consistency protection is enabled for the R1->R21 hop through RDFG 1

·    Devices in the cascaded group are: 2B0-2BF

·    Staging area:

·     R1 is on Symmetrix 88. R1->R21 uses RDFG 3

·     R21 is on Symmetrix 76. R21->R2 uses RDFG 4

·     R2 is on Symmetrix 156

Task 1:    Add devices to the cascaded group

  1. [   ]    Type the symcg –cg GroupName modify –add –sid SID –stg_rdfg GroupNum –file DeviceFile –stg_r21_rdfg GroupNum –cg_rdfg GroupNum –cg_r21_rdfg GroupNum command to move device pairs from RDF groups in the staging area to the specified RDF groups.

Command syntax includes:

-stg_rdfg GroupNum - The RDF group(s) that comprise the staging area.

-f File - The filename containing the list of devices to be acted upon.

-stg_r21_rdfg GroupNum - The RDF group connecting the R21 and R2 Symmetrix arrays.

-cg_rdfg GroupNum - RDF group(s) within the CG to which devices will be added or removed.

-cg_r21_rdfg GroupNum - The RDF group connecting the R21 and R2 Symmetrix arrays.

To move the device pairs in device file drdf_stg from RDFG 3 and RDFG 4 in the staging area to RDFG 1 and RDFG 2 in the casc CG:

symcg -cg casc modify -add -sid 088 -stg_rdfg 3 -f drdf_stg -stg_r21_rdfg 4 -cg_rdfg 1 -cg_r21_rdfg 2 -nop

To display the first hop in cascaded group casc:

symrdf -cg casc query

 

In the following output, device pairs added to the cascaded composite group spanning the first hop (R1->R21) are highlighted:

Task 2:    Remove devices from a cascaded group

                   

  1. [   ]    Type the symcg –cg GroupName modify –remove –sid SID –stg_rdfg GroupNum –file DeviceFile –stg_r21_rdfg GroupNum –cg_rdfg GroupNum –cg_r21_rdfg GroupNum command to remove device pairs from the specified RDF groups in the specified group.

Command syntax includes:

-stg_rdfg GroupNum - The RDF group(s) that comprise the staging area.

-f File - The filename containing the list of devices to be acted upon.

-stg_r21_rdfg GroupNum - The RDF group connecting the R21 and R2 Symmetrix arrays.
