About this procedure

·    This procedure was created using Solutions Enabler version 6.1.

·    This procedure uses the following configuration:

·    Local Source Symmetrix (sid 150): R1 concurrent devices

·    Remote Target Symmetrix (sid 180): R2 devices in synchronous mode

·    Remote Target Symmetrix (sid 152): R2 devices to be run in asynchronous mode

·    This procedure is based on content in the EMC Solutions Enabler 7.6 Symmetrix SRDF Family CLI Product Guide.

Task 1:    Display existing device groups

  1. [   ]    Type the symrdf list –sid SID -concurrent command to display concurrent SRDFdevices on the specified Symmetrix.

To display concurrent SRDF devices on SID 150:

symrdf list -sid 150 -concurrent

 

In the following output:

·         Two remote devices of a concurrent R1 device belong to a different SRDF group (SRDF Typ:G 4 and 5).

·         Device 0072 is the meta head of a 16-member meta device (0072 to 0081)

·         Device 0082 is the meta head of a second meta device.

·         The two meta head devices display the invalid tracks for all members of the meta device:

Task 2:    Create a composite group and add devices

                   

  1. [   ]    Type the symcg create GroupName –type RDFType -rdf_consistency command to create a composite group with the specified GroupName.

-type specifies an RDF1 type group (for the R1 devices.

-rdf_consistency tells SRDF to add the composite group to the RDF consistency database so it can be managed for SRDF consistency protection.

To create RDF1 composite group srdftest2:

symcg create srdftest2 -type rdf1 -rdf_consistency

 

  2. [   ]    Type the symcg –cg GroupName –sid SID addall dev –rdfg RDFGroupNum command to add all devices from the two SRDF groups that represent the concurrent links.

Note:  With concurrent R1 devices, the command that adds one concurrent link (SRDF group 4) actually adds both concurrent links: SRDF group 4 and SRDF group 5.

To add devices in SRDF group 4 (and 5) to composite group srdftest2 on Symmetrix 150:

symcg -cg srdftest2 -sid 150 addall dev -rdfg 4

 

  3. [   ]    Type the symrdf –cg GroupName query –detail command to display local and remote Symmetrix array information and the status of the SRDF pairs in the composite group.

To query composite group srdftest2 on Symmetrix 150:

symrdf -cg srdftest2 query -detail

 

In the following output:

·         The SRDF pairs are in the Synchronized state.

·         Both SRDF groups are initially operating in Sync mode (S)

 

Note:   The -detail option is particularly useful if SRDF group names have been set and RDFA information is needed.

Task 3:    Set the SRDF group name and replication mode

                   

  1. [   ]    Type the symcg –cg GroupName set -name Name –rdfg SID:RDFGroupNum command once for each RDF group for which you want to create a name.

SRDF can use this group name to control consistency for the group.

To assign the name rdfg4 to SRDF group 4 on Symmentrix 150:

symcg -cg srdftest2 set -name rdfg4 -rdfg 150:4

 

To assign the name rdfg5 to SRDF group 5 on Symmentrix 150:

symcg -cg srdftest2 set -name rdfg5 -rdfg 150:5

 

  2. [   ]    Type the symrdf –cg GroupName –rdfg name:Name set mode async command to set the mode of replication to asynchronous for the devices in the specified subset of the composite group.

To set the mode to asyncheonous for devices in the subset rdfg5 of composite group srdftest2:

symrdf -cg srdftest2 -rdfg name:rdfg5 set mode async –noprompt

 

Asynchronous replication starts to Symmetrix 152

Synchronous replication continues to Symmetrix 180.

Task 5:    Manually suspend an SRDF subset

                   

This task simulates how consistency suspends during an unplanned interruption by manually tripping a subset of the consistency group.

  1. [   ]    Type the symrdf –cg GroupName suspend –rdfg name:Name –force command to deactivate (and thus suspend) the synchronous link.

-force is required to stop SRDF mirroring.

To suspend subset rdfg4 in composite group srdftest2:

symrdf -cg srdftest2 suspend -rdfg name:rdfg4 -noprompt -force

Task 6:    Resume the suspended subset

To resume the SRDF link represented by the rdfg4 subset of consistency group srdftest2:

·         I/O traffic resumes between the synchronous R1 devices and their paired R2 devices.

·         Normal SRDF mirroring resumes.
