Configuring SRDF/AR single hop

SRDF/Automated Replication (SRDF/AR) combines SRDF and TimeFinder to provide a long-distance disaster restart solution. SRDF/AR single-hop (two-site) topologies use SRDF/DM in combination with TimeFinder.

About this procedure

·    This procedure was created using Solutions Enabler version 5.4.

·    Commands are issued from the source-side host.

·    This procedure uses the following configuration:

·    HP-UX host connected to a source Symmetrix (sid 161).with:

·    Local Source Symmetrix (sid 35) with:

·    Standard devices 56-6E

·    R1 BCV devices 182-19A

·    Remote Target Symmetrix (sid 41) with:

·    BCV devices 137-14F

Task 1:     Display arrays attached to the local host

   1. [   ]    From the SYMCLI prompt, type the following command to display the Symmetrix arrays attached to this host.

In the following example, arrays 000187900035 and 000187900041 are configured as a single-hop:

Task 2:     Create a device group and add devices

                       

   1. [   ]    Type the symdg create GroupName command to create a new device group.

The following command creates a device group named “symrep”:

symdg create symrep

 

   2. [   ]    Type the sympd list command to display all Symmetrix devices that are visible to this host.

Note:  The following example has been edited to show only devices used in the example.

N/Grp’d indicates devices not already part of a device group and free to be added to device group symrep:

To add a single specified device, use the add pd or add dev syntax and specify the full path name of the device:

symcg –g DgName -sid SymmetrixID add pd /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0s2

 

To add a contiguous range of devices, use the addall syntax and specify the range:

symcg –g DgName -sid SymmetrixID addall dev -range SymDevStart:SymDevEnd

 

For example, to add the range of devices 56 through 6E to disk group symrep:

symdg -g symrep addall dev -range 56:6E -sid 35

 

Task 3:     Associate BCV devices

                       

   1. [   ]    Type the symdev list –r1 –bcv command to display only those R1 BCV devices in the local Symmetrix system (sid 35) that are:

·        Not already part of a device group (Attribute = N/Asst’d), and

·        Are free to be added to the device group.

Task 4:     Start a replication session

                       

   1. [   ]    Use a text editor (for example vi) to create a text file to configure the parameters and values that specify the single hop configuration. Solutions Enabler uses these parameters during the symreplicate session.

Set the parameters as follows:

·        Hop type = single

·        Cycle time (number of minutes between copy operations) = 10

·        Cycle overflow (action to take if the cycle timer is exceeded) = NEXT

·        Cycle number (number of replication  cycles to run before exit) = 1

 

Your text file should look like the following example:

Note:  Unlike the symreplicate start command (which cycles as many times as configured), the symreplicate setup command cycles only once.

If you have various “wait” options in the options file, setup command honors them.

To setup group symrep using the options in text file symrep.opt:

Task 6:     Modify, stop, and resume the symreplicate session

                       

You can modify the parameters that control your symreplicate session.

 

If you increase the number of copy cycles to greater than one, the CYCLE_OVERFLOW value of NEXT becomes relevant.

If the first copy cycle lasts longer than its alloted time, the second copy cycle will begin at the next scheduled start.

For example, if the cycle timer is set to 10 minutes, and the first copy cycle overflows to 15 minutes, the second cycle begins at the 20-minute mark. If the first copy cycle overflows to 35 minutes, the second cycle begins at the 40-minute mark.

   1. [   ]    Use a text editor (for example vi) to modify the text file used to configure the parameters and values. For example:
